08 Feb My 70 year old client is squatting heavy on her new hip replacement!
Mary had her left hip replaced last year with a Stryker brand titanium hip replacement. 8 Weeks post surgery, she came to me to start rehabbing. We started by having her squat, with her body weight only, onto a 20 inch tall box. About once each week we were able to lower the box 3/4″ to 1″. Once she could squat to the box at 13″, she was squatting below parallel with her hip crease below the patella, we started adding a little weight. This took about 8 months.
We started by having her hug 2.5 pounds to her chest and squatting. About every other session she squatted with an additional 2.5 pounds.
At about 15 months post op, she is squatting around 45 pounds. Holidays, travel and life has meant some delays, but we meet for one hour every Monday and Friday.
Mary is deadlifting her bodyweight now as well. She’s stronger than she’s been in decades.
Please let me help you do the same.
